Sing-a-ma-jigs in our Toy Department! When you really need a giggle!

They're cute, they're zany, they're the latest singing sensation! They're...The Sing-a-ma-jigs!

Choose one of three ways to play, then squeeze its hand or tummy to make its little mouth "O"pen wide (funny little teeth and tongue inside!) for each adorable note or word. It can sing its own song, or sing in harmony with the others, or talk and jibber jabber chatter. Start with 1 for solo fun, or choose your favorite 2, 3, 4 or more to create your own crazy chorus. Each one has its own scale and high or low pitch, so when The Sing-a-ma-jigs! sing together in any combination, they all harmonize perfectly-every time! Ages 3 years & up

Book Signing! Oct. 9, 2-4pm Still Life Painting Atelier by Michael Friel!

MICHAEL FRIEL has taught still life painting for more than ten years at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, one of the leading professional art schools in the country. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Washington and has shown his work extensively in the Pacific Northwest.

His new book, Still Life Painting Atelier, just published by Watson Guptill, is the equivalent of a foundation course in traditional oil painting for beginning to intermediate level artists. This in-depth book uses the still life as a practical way to master oil techniques. The still life is a forgiving genre as it does not require the likeness of a portrait or the accurate proportions of the figure and, unlike the landscape, it doesn't change with the weather. Instead, it gives aspiring artists ample time to study and the opportunity to look closer. It can be used as a purely formal subject for drawing and painting techniques, or a platform for emotional expression using personal symbolism and imagery.

We are lucky to have a selection of Michael's original work in our gallery through October 16, including the cover painting. Please join us from 2-4pm on Saturday, October 9, meet Michael and have him sign one of his beautiful books!

Michael will be also demonstrating his painting techniques in our Gallery Space on Sunday, October 10 from 2-3pm.

An Artist A Day is Over! . . . and what a success!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our An Artist A Day Program! It was wonderful to have artists working in our gallery every day in August and then to have this wonderful art hanging in our gallery in September!

Our Closing Reception on September 25th was a party! The wonderful hors d'oeuvres provided by Roxanne Shepard and the Bellevue Schools Foundation were enjoyed by the artists and patrons alike. Music was provided by members of the orchestra from Interlake High School. And we raised over $1700 for the Bellevue Schools Foundation!

Artists and Patrons asked if we are going to do it again? April 2011!
